The way you phrase this comment really downplays the horrors of an omnivorous diets (and to clarify, obviously there are some who follow an omnivorous diet that do not partake in factory farming but the vast majority of those getting animal products do, and when I refer to omnivores this is what I am talking about). I don’t need to go over the horrendous shit that happens in these intensive farming operations but suffice it to say when someone says “omnivorous diet” it is a euphemism for financially supporting (and demanding) the systematic enslavement and brutal death of millions of animals a year, it’d be like saying someone who pays for child porn is just “looking at pictures”. With that in mind, what I was attempting to do was show how it is ethically irresponsible to categorize actions that have an extremely negative impact on others to be merely personal choices. Once you take away the choice of another, it can no longer be said to be simply a personal choice. The reason I used the comparison of paying to have one’s wife killed is because when someone purchases meat they are paying to have another do the dirty work. Admittedly this may not have been the best example to use, but I was not saying they are exactly the same (obviously there are very different emotions and motivations attached) rather I was point out that if someone justified the act of having their wife murdered as a “personal choice” because it would increase their enjoyment of life, they would be sent to prison, but when a human uses that excuse to murder another living being for the enjoyment of their taste buds it is just considered a personal choice. People are very quick to dismiss vegans who would bring up slavery, women’s suffrage, racism, sexism, etc… in their arguments against animal consumption, but most of the time the comparison isn’t in the exact act (and most of the time there are many parallels, but to say they are exactly the same undercuts the atrocities of both animal rights issues as well as whatever they are being compared to) but in the mindset of the oppressor.

And in this corner we have a lifetime member of the no fun club.
